A buyer's guide to wholesale cereal for hotels
Buffet cereal is a low-margin, high-visibility line. Guests notice it, and it is easy to get wrong in a way that shows.
Ask about sugar first
Many branded buffet cereals carry a lot of added sugar. That is fine commercially and poor for the guest who is watching it. Ask for the figure per 100g rather than a claim on the front of the bag.
Ask what the base grain is
Corn and refined wheat are cheap and contribute little. Bran-based and protein-based flakes cost more per kilo and deliver something. For a property positioning itself on wellness, this is the whole conversation.
Check the bag format against your service
A 3 KG bag suits a property refilling a dispenser twice a service. Larger bags look cheaper per kilo and then go stale once opened. Match format to turnover, not to headline price.
Establish who you are actually buying from
- Do you manufacture this, or source it? Ask directly.
- Can we see the unit?
- What is the real MOQ — not the website number?
- What happens to price at 10 KG, at 50 KG?
A reseller will be vague on the first two. A manufacturer will invite you over.
Shelf life and storage
Confirm shelf life from date of manufacture, not date of despatch, and ask what humidity the product tolerates. In coastal properties this decides whether month three is crisp or disappointing.
